Customer survey: what you told us

In 2019, we asked you to take our survey and you answered – we had almost 6,000 people participate! We wanted to learn what was important to YOU and how we could improve our service.

Our goal is to keep current customers on transit by understanding where we’re not meeting your expectations. We also want to attract new customers by understanding what would get people out of their cars and onto transit in the future.

Just over half (56%) of you told us you have a fairly high satisfaction with our service. However there’s room for improvement. Many of you answered you’re either neutral (27%) or unsatisfied (17%).


What we’ve learned from your responses

Current customers told us to focus on:

  1. On-time service reliability
  2. Weather protection at bus stops
  3. Waiting times at transfer and connection points
  4. Frequency of service on weekends and holidays
  5. Bus crowdedness

Potential new customers agreed, and also want us to:

  • Reduce # of transfers required
  • Reduce total trip time (like using a car)
  • Increase connections to other modes of transportation

Both groups agree that they’d be willing to use transit if the service is improved.

There's been a flurry of online discussion at My HSR. We've heard about things we need to improve, and you’ve shared many creative ideas with us. Your voice matters and we're grateful for your insights!

What’s next for (Re)envision?

The (Re)envision project has seen success in 2019. We've launched our engagement website, rolled out in our consultation bus, analyzed a lot of data, and had some engaging conversations with you.

    What is (Re)envision?

    Great transit is vital to helping the City achieve its vision of being the best place to raise a child and age successfully. That’s why we’re embracing the opportunity to look to the future by (Re)envisioning the HSR.

    We’ve partnered with world-class experts at McMaster University. Together, we’ll map out the road ahead and envision a transit system that moves at the speed of Hamilton.

    We can’t do this without your help. We’re putting you first; engaging thousands of customers, residents and visitors. We want to find out how you feel about our current service and what you need in the future.

    With your voice, we’ll reconfigure our routes and improve our schedules and service. Our goal is to meet your needs today and exceed your expectations tomorrow.

    (Re)envision is part of the 10-Year Transit Strategy

    Hamilton City Council approved the strategy in March 2015. It builds upon previous plans that considered how to prepare for moving people quickly and efficiently across Hamilton.

    • Continue to refine the customer experience
    • Address current system deficiencies
    • Revise and apply service standards
    • Continue to add capacity until ridership exceeds system capacity
    • Rapid Transit corridors needed
